Island of Muckle Ossa in background. Spectacular cliffs formed from the bedded andesitic agglomerate. The high vertical cliffs are the product of rapid erosion caused by the combination of a drowned landscape and very powerful storms and the resulting marine erosion. The rapid erosion does not allow any sub-aerial erosion which would tend to form a more gently sloped cliff. |
