Description: Fair Isle, the west coast looking from the east coast of Muckle Geo of Huni to ridge and stacks on north shore, Shetland Isles. Erosion and removal of debris by wave action has led to the formation of stacks on the north side of the Muckle Geo of Huni. The stacks consist of hard sandstone (Old Red Sandstone) and their shape is controlled by breakage along joints and bedding planes. The small island of Fair Isle is situated half-way between Shetland and Orkney, 24 miles from Sumburgh Head. It is 3.5 miles long from north to south and 1.5 miles wide. It rises to a height of 712 ft. (217 m.). Fine cliffs are found on the north and west sides and there are many caverns, geos, stacks and arches.
