Description: | Siccar Point, from about NT 816 707. The classic locality of 'Hutton's Unconformity' south-east of Siccar Point, Berwickshire. Red Sandstone and breccias of Upper Old Red Sandstone dip northwards at a low angle over Silurian greywackes, closely folded on east-north-east axes. Silurian rocks on the headland dip steeply (inverted) towards camera. Down-faulted block of Old Red Sandstone to left of centre; Old Red Sandstone sandstones in foreground. The unconformity is very irregular in detail but is in general parallel to the overlying beds of sandstone. |
