Caption: Stourton. Excursion to Mere, April 21st 1916.
Description: The Bristol Cross. Purchased by an ancestor of Sir Henry Hoare, of Stourhead House, Stourton, from the Dean of Bristol, about the close of the 18th Century and after being conveyed over 30 miles by road, re-erected at the entrance to Stourhead Gardens. It was at first strengthened by an iron rod passing through the centre. This has been replaced by one of copper to save the monument. JS.
