Caption: Stair Hole. Swanage Excursion, May 14th 1910.
Description: Here the sea having bored a hole in the Portland Limestone has gained access to the Wealden strata behind. The soft Upper Purbeck strata and the Wealden sands and clays are being rapidly scoured out leaving a large oval hollow enclosed seawards by a wall of Limestone.
