| Description: | This picturesque combe is a deep ravine cut into the northern side of the Blackdown plateau and shows a fine section of the Lower Carboniferous Limestone in the quarries on the left hand side of the road from Burrington. Owing to the high dip which averages 60 degrees, the whole of the beds from D1 to the Old Red Sandstone with a thickness of 2600 feet can be studied within two thirds of a mile. These are correlated to the Gully Oolite of the Avon section. |
