Description: Moo Stack and coast to north of Eshaness, Mainland, Shetland Isles. Marine denudation worked along vertical joints in horizontal mugearitic basalt lava and ash. Horizontal lava flows and pyroclastic deposits, mainly tuff (lithified volcanic ash) form cliffs which are being eroded by wave action. The cliffs are slowly retreating leaving rock stacks bounded by approximately vertical joints. Major joint faces can be seen as faces on the stacks sub-parallel with the coast.
