Description: | Dore Holm, off south coast of Esha Ness, Mainland, Shetland Isles. A small offshore island with a natural arch, composed of andesitic agglomerate capped by andesite. These volcanic rocks are of Devonian (Old Red Sandstone) age. The Old Red Sandstone rocks of Dore Holm and Esha Ness occupy the ground to the west of the probable northward extension of Melby Fault. The rocks are part of a sequence of lavas and tuffs, agglomerates and ignimbrites that are folded into a shallow north-north-east trending syncline, Dore Holm is on the eastern limb. |
