Description: | Near Aonachan, and 1435.6 m. west 42 degrees south of bridge over Spean at Spean Bridge, Inverness-shire. View east-north-east of Spean Valley towards Glen Roy (centre, right), showing terraced spreads of fluvioglacial deposits. During the last pulse of the last glaciation, the Loch Lomond Readvance c. 10,000 years ago large confluent glaciers flowed eastwards into the Great Glen, ice extended up into Glen Spean to impond large lochs which gave rise to the 'Parallel Roads' of Glen Roy and Glen Spean. On the hill (centre, left) can be seen a shore feature of a former glacially-dammed lake, which corresponds to the lowest of the 'Parallel Roads' of Glen Roy. |
