| Description: | Loch Teacuis, looking west-north-west from the slopes of Beinn na h-Uamha, Morvern, Argyllshire. Typical scenery of the Tertiary volcanic province. In the foreground is the ancient Precambrian Moine schist basement. In the middle distance are plateau basalt lavas erupted from fissures, which lie on top of the Jurassic sediments and which represent the first igneous activity in the Tertiary. This was closely followed by the development of central igneous complexes, in the background is Ben Hiant, a Tertiary volcano, part of the Ardnamurchan central igneous complex. Note the development of landslips where the plateau lavas rest on the weaker Jurassic rocks. |
