Caption: Panorama from A' Chrannag, Ulva, looking north and north-east across Loch Tuath and Loch na Keal towards Mull, Argyllshire.
Description: In the foreground on Ulva and left and centre on Mull, the rocks are the plateau basalts, the first phase of the Tertiary vulcanicity. They were erupted subaerially and lava effusion was fairly quiet. Flows followed each other after short periods of weathering. The lava pile is thought to be up to 2.2 km. thick. On the right is Ben More with the three centre igneous complex towards the head of Loch na Keal. On the opposite shore of Loch Tuath a series of raised beaches are visible from the 25 ft. near the shoreline to the 100 ft. right of centre including a number of intermediate beaches. Beinn na Drise is on the centre left while to the right are Ben More and the mountains of the Tertiary igneous central complex. Part of a panorama with C03659 and C03660. The description is for the full panorama.
