Description: | Abbey Craig, Causewayhead, Stirling, from south-west, Stirlingshire. The wooded escarpment of the Carboniferous columnar quartz-dolerite sill rises from the '50 ft.' raised beach plain, which slopes towards the River Forth (in foreground). The Wallace Monument crowning the summit was built of sandstone from a quarry in Carboniferous Limestone sediments which outcrop from beneath the sill on the extreme left. |
