Description: 1.1 km. north of Merryton Farm, 4.0 km. south-east of Hamilton, looking south-east, Lanarkshire. A pond marking site of subsidence into coal workings beneath the alluvial plain of River Clyde. The alluvium 22 m. thick (running sand, gravel, etc.), collapsed into Ell Coal workings about 30 m. beneath the surface and flooded Home Farm Colliery. (See Mines Inspectors Reports, 1877, p.145 and plate.)
