Description: While exploring onboard H.M.S Erebus, Hooker also made botanical collections. Here is a specimen of modern wood collected from the Macquarie Plains of Tasmania in 1840. Note how Hooker uses the term V.D. Land, an abbreviation of Van Diemen's Land, the old name for Tasmania. Age: Recent.
