Description: Looking west to Patna Hill, Patna, Ayrshire. Agglomerate-filled volcanic neck. Patna Hill, in centre skyline, consists of an agglomerate-filled volcanic neck of possible Permian age, which intrudes Carboniferous sedimentary rocks of the Limestone Coal Formation, Clackmannan Group. Patna village can be seen on the far side of the River Doon. The road in the foreground is now the A714, Ayr to Castle Douglas Road. Patna Hill is only one of more than 20 such vents in the Patna - Dalmellington area of Ayrshire.
