Description: Rubha na h-Uamha, cliff north-west of Loch Scridain, south-west Mull, Argyllshire. 'Maculloch's Tree' a fossil tree, one of several in the area found at the base of the Tertiary columnar basalt lavas. This upright cast of a tree trunk stands some 12 metres high and 1.5 metres wide and was totally engulfed by a lava flow of the Staffa Magma Type. The fossil tree is the coniferous Cupressinoxylon. The trees provide clear evidence that the lavas were erupted in a sub-aerial environment.
