Description: | Carlingheugh Bay, 2.8 km. north-east of Arbroath, looking north, Angus. A wave-cut platform in nearly horizontal sandstones and conglomerates of Upper Old Red Sandstone (Upper Devonian) age. The distant cliff shows the Lower Old Red Sandstone behind the fault which brings it up against the Upper Old Red Sandstone. The actual line of fault is seen at the 'Dark Cave' in the cliffs on the left and below the cliff at the extreme end of that headland. The remains of '100 ft.' terrace (raised beach) is seen on the top of the distant cliff. |
