Description: Whiting Ness, 1.6 km. east-north-east of Arbroath, Angus. The unconformable junction of Upper Old Red Sandstone and the Lower Old Red Sandstone. Lower and Upper Devonian age respectively. Breccia, probably a scree, at the base of Upper Old Red Sandstone resting unconformably on denuded surface of the Lower Old Red Sandstone. Note the wide size range of the blocks in the breccia indicative of formation in a high energy environment and the abrupt change to finer sandstone above.
