Description: River Lyon at Mor Shuas, Glen Lyon, Perthshire. Pot-holes in the river bed. One of the most potent methods of down-cutting by a river is by the formation of pot-holes. Developed from depressions in the river bed they attract pebbles and boulders which are swirled round by eddies acting like drilling-tools and so wearing away the sides and floor by the process called corrasion. The rocks are psammites (metamorphosed sandstones), hornblendic ribs and calcareous phyllites.
