| Description: | Forming evidence of eruptive events the vents were active during the major period of volcanic activity that created the Clyde Plateau Lavas during the Dinantian, Lower Carboniferous. In the western Midland Valley the lavas attain almost 900 m. in thickness in several fault-bounded blocks one of which is the Campsie Hills. A string of volcanic vents filled in with agglomerate and basalt, on northern edge of Campsie volcanic plateau, standing out above the comparatively weak Ballagan Beds (sandstones, mudstones and cementstones) seen on slope. |
