Description: Cliffs of Silurian greywackes, coast west of St. Abb's Head, Berwickshire. Cliff of highly folded Silurian greywackes and shales. The large screes banked against the foot of the cliffs are temporarily protecting the rock from attack by the sea. However, the waves will gradually erode the scree and begin to undermine the rock in due course. Note the narrow wave-cut platform of the modern beach. The Silurian greywackes seen here were deposited underwater in the sea as huge submarine fans with the sands transported into deep water by turbidity currents.
