Description: Coire Dubh Loch Mor and the Plat Reidh, Ben More Assynt, Sutherland. A mass of Lewisian gneiss with basic dykes, capped with Cambrian Quartzite overlying the Ben More Thrust plane, part of the Moine Thrust Zone. The footpath where it crosses the waterfall (in C02027) is along the line of the outcrop of the thrust plane. There is an infold of Torridonian rocks between the lower cliff of Lewisan gneiss and the footpath. Beneath the Torridonian and separated by a thrust are some Cambrian strata dipping to the north-west. The moraine and peat-covered plateau on which the Dubh Loch lies is known as the Plat Reidh.
