Description: | Head of the Allt a' Mhuilinn, on the east side of Ben Nevis, Inverness-shire. A glaciated valley. This is the head of the corrie seen in photographs C01786-C01787 looking up towards the arete. The 'Inner Granite of Ben Nevis' forms the slopes on left. The cliff on right and the glaciated rocks in foreground are formed of andesite lavas and breccias. The junction is in the stream where upturned Lower Old Red Sandstone basal conglomerates and underlying Dalradian schists are exposed. Note the smoothness of the rocks in the foreground, they have been glacially smoothed by the previously overlying glacier. They contrast with the cliffs which are rougher and probably underwent plucking by the glacier. |
