| Description: | Carn Dearg Meadhonach, 2.0 km. north-north-east of Ben Nevis, Inverness-shire. Postglacial to recent weathering effects on the mountain tops especially the development of scree slopes. A view slightly to the left of C01782. As rainfall penetrates the joints, cracks and other weaknesses in the granite it causes a buildup of pressure, and with the subsequent expansion of the water on freezing, blocks are loosened so eventually they fall when a thaw sets in. The accumulated fallen material forms scree slopes like the one shown. |
