| Description: | The narrow gorge is cut in the base of a very high-level gap which shows intense glacial erosion. Because of ice-moulding to the very bottom of the valley it is not postglacial in origin, and at the same time it is considered too narrow to be the direct work of glacial erosion. The inference being that this is a pre-glacial section of the Glen Nevis valley. Gorge, looking downstream, cut in hornfelsed mica-schists (Leven Schists, part of the Lochaber Subgroup of the Dalradian Supergroup (Precambrian)). Showing, on left, unbroken curve of glaciated surface reaching to gorge bottom. |
