Description: | From Rhuvaal, on the north-east tip of Islay, Argyllshire, looking south-eastwards across the Sound of Jura to the Paps of Jura. Paps of Jura (Jura Quartzite) rising out of the low coastal plain. Note the High Rock Platform forming the flat-topped cliffs visible in the distance across the Sound of Jura. Most of Jura is composed of the Jura Quartzite formation (Islay Subgroup, Argyll Group, part of the Dalradian Supergroup) which totals more than 4 km. in thickness. The Islay Subgroup is overlain by the Easdale Subgroup, which crops out along the south-eastern coast of Jura. |
