Description: | Top of cliff near Brein Phort, south of Loch Tarbert, west coast of Jura, Argyllshire. Shingle of raised beach and wave-cut platform. Coarse shingle deposit of raised beach on cliff top at 30.8 m. (c. 101 ft.) O.D., forming part of the High Rock Platform. The latter can be seen forming the centre skyline, sloping gently seawards. The High Rock Platform is very well displayed in the Jura-Colonsay area and, from the striations and glacial deposits found in places, was originally thought to be pre-glacial in origin. Current views are less certain and it may be inter-glacial in date. |
