Description: | Beinn Oronsay, Island of Oronsay, Argyllshire. Raised plain of marine erosion and backing cliff. Good view looking landwards across the wave-cut shelf of the High Rock Platform (with farm buildings). The high ground in centre distance represents the old sea cliff of the platform. The High Rock Platform is very well displayed in the Jura-Colonsay area and, from the striations and glacial deposits found in places, was originally thought to be pre-glacial in origin. Current views are less certain and it may be inter-glacial in date. |
