| Description: | Uragaig, from the north side of Kiloran Bay, Colonsay, Argyllshire. Raised cliff and plain of marine erosion. The raised wave-cut platform seen here is the so-called 'High Rock Platform' present on several of the Inner Hebrides islands. The high ground on the left represents the old sea cliff at the back of the platform. The High Rock Platform is typically at about 32-34 m. O.D. in the Jura-Colonsay area and, from the striations and glacial deposits found in places, was originally thought to be pre-glacial in origin. Current views are less certain and it may be inter-glacial in date. |
