Description: | Uragaig, from the north side of Kiloran Bay, Colonsay, Argyllshire. Raised cliff and plain of marine erosion. The raised wave-cut platform seen in the centre skyline is the so-called 'High Rock Platform' present on several of the Inner Hebrides islands. The backing cliff can be seen as an obvious feature on the skyline. The High Rock Platform is typically at about 32-34 m. O.D. in the Jura-Colonsay area and, from the striations and glacial deposits found in places, was originally thought to be pre-glacial in origin. Current views are less certain and it may be inter-glacial in date. |
