Description: | North end of Traigh Ban, Kiloran Bay, Colonsay, Argyllshire. Lamprophyre dyke. This exposure shows a typical glacially smoothed surface in which a lamprophyre dyke is clearly seen to cut a breccia at the margin of a syenite intrusion. Such ice-moulded exposures, especially when scoured clean by the sea (as here) can provide excellent examples of geological relationships which can be difficult to demonstrate inland. Smooth, planed-off rock pavements and striated rock surfaces are characteristic features of glaciated terranes. |
