Description: Carrickfergus. Looking S. Thermal alteration of Keuper Marl by Tertiary dolerite dyke. On the shore immediately below Carrickfergus Castle the dyke on which it rests is in contact with Keuper Marl. The marl becomes strongly banded and at the actual contact the banding is contorted. The plane of contact is seen on the right-hand side of the picture.
