Description: At The Gegan, 4.8 km. east of North Berwick, East Lothian. Ashy sandstone with the different hardness of alternating beds picked out by weathering. This is part of a thick succession of ashy sandstones and consolidated basaltic tuffs of Carboniferous age in the North Berwick area. Together with the numerous lavas and igneous intrusions, they testify to the considerable amount of volcanic activity in Scotland during Lower Carboniferous times. The cage-like objects on the skyline and behind the seated figure are lobster pots.
