Description: The Amphitheatre. Looking SE. Columnar Tholeiitc Basalt lavas. The Lower Basalts outcrop at the path (bottom left) and are overlain by the Interbasaltic Bed, c. 40 ft. thick. Two flows of columnar Tholeiitic Basalts are seen in the cliff with regular columns at the base and thicker and irregular columns in the upper parts. The base of a third flow with only very short columns is seen at the clifftop.
