Caption: Terrace at Dalnabo, Ballinluig Station, 4.5 miles south-east of Pitlochry, Perthshire.
Description: The Tummel Valley is floored by low-lying tracts of terrace and alluvium, formed mainly of sands and silt. These deposits are known to conceal deep glacially scoured channels filled with sand and gravel of fluvioglacial origin. On the valley sides, the deposit reaches a height of 20-40 m. above river level and is either hummocky or as at Ballinluig with prominent kame terraces. They are at a height of 95 m. O.D. (though reaching 105 m. O.D. up the valley at Pitlochry). The remains of a terrace of a temporary glacial lake which occupied the Tay Valley from Pitlochry to near Dunkeld. The railway station is clearly seen in the centre of the photograph.
