Description: Ben Vrackie range viewed from the north from near Carn Liath, east of Blair Atholl, 2.5 miles east of the Pass of Killiecrankie, Perthshire. Typical of scenery due to blanket peat in the foreground and the Ben Vrackie sill complex in the distance. The intrusions of the Ben Vrackie range consist of metamorphosed basic rocks called amphibolites and hornblende schists or metamorphosed gabbros called epidiorites. The complex is intruded into the Dalradian metasedimentary Ben Lawers and Ben Lui schists and shows evidence of a metamorphic contact aureole, i.e. a region around the complex that has been altered by the heat of the intrusion as it was emplaced.
