Description: | Alluvial fan of the Quoich Water (side stream) where it enters the River Dee (main valley), 3 km. west-south-west of Braemar, Aberdeenshire. Flat alluvial plain of River Dee in foreground. Alluvial fan of River Quoich (opposite) slopes down from left to right at a steady gradient. Fan material is coarse sand and gravel (note pit in centre view). Hills in middle distance are made of flaggy psammites (metamorphosed sandstones) of the Grampian Group, but mountains on skyline are made of Cairngorm Granite. |
