Description: North of Swordale Hill, Glen Glass, Ross & Cromarty. Looking north-north-west. Fluvioglacial high terraces and plain of recent alluvium. Devonian conglomerates faulted against Moine psammites. Low, flat ground in valley, near-middle distance, is alluvial plain of River Glass. Flat-topped mounds in front of and behind river valley are terraces of glaciofluvial sand and gravel. Foreground and ground covered by glaciofluvial deposits is underlain by conglomerates of the Cnoc Fyrish Conglomerate Formation (Middle Devonian). Along the line of the Helmsdale Fault, running roughly along the break of slope in front of the distant hills, the Devonian rocks are faulted down against psammites (metamorphosed sandstones) of the Moine Supergroup.
