Description: | View from Rothiemurchus Forest looking south towards the Cairngorms, Inverness-shire. Plateau of the Cairngorm massif. Wind gap of the Lairig Ghru on left centre. The Cairngorms form a rolling high-level plateau with a few upstanding hills, which has been dissected by fluvial and then glacial erosion, producing deep clefts like the Lairig Ghru (gap, centre left). The relatively smooth surface of the plateau reflects the uniform nature of the granite bedrock. Rothiemurchus Forest (middle ground) is a remnant of the great Caledonian pine forest. |
