Description: 0.5 km. east of Shian Bay, west coast of Jura, Argyllshire. Near view to show the nature of the shingle forming the late-glacial raised beach. Shingle forming late-glacial raised beach, in foreground, consists almost entirely of subrounded cobbles up to 0.1-0.5 m. in maximum dimension derived from the local bedrock, which is Jura Quartzite (Islay Subgroup, Argyll Group, Dalradian Supergroup). Rounding is due to repeated wave action acting on blocks which have weathered along bedding planes and joints. In distance, the mountains of North Jura are entirely made of Jura Quartzite.
