| Description: | West side of Oxroad Bay, Tantallon, 4.5 km. east of North Berwick, East Lothian. Cliffs of tuff and agglomerate. Cliff on left made of poorly-bedded to unbedded agglomerate filling a roughly circular vent c. 400 m. across, to the south-east of Tantallon Castle. Similar agglomerate in another vent forms cliffs on right beyond castle. Directly under castle, the lower part of cliff consists of siltstones, sandstones and mudstones of Ballagan Formation (Inverclyde Group, Tournaisian), dipping gently shoreward. The upper part of the cliff is agglomerate, part of the neck forming the cliff to the right. Tantallon Castle is a major medieval castle and national monument, made of red Devonian sandstone and conglomerate. |
