Description: Kellie Law, 6 km. north-north-east of Elie, Fifeshire (from the south). A late Carboniferous or early Permian volcanic vent filled with agglomerate. Kellie Law is a large volcanic vent filled with agglomerate of basaltic composition. The vent is c.1 km. across and roughly oval in shape. Despite being more resistant than the surrounding sedimentary rocks, agglomerate is very poorly exposed and forms smooth hills. The few crags on the slopes are related to large blocks or minor intrusions of basaltic rocks within the vent. The vent cuts through sandstone and basaltic tuff of the Lower Coal Measures (Coal Measures Group, Westphalian), and is of late Carboniferous or early Permian age.
