Description: King Alexander's Craig, 1 km. west of Kinghorn, Fifeshire. Cliff showing successive outcrops of basic basalt lavas and tuffs. Trap featuring in gently dipping volcanic succession of the Lower Carboniferous Kinghorn Volcanic Formation. The central portions of lava flows are more resistant to weathering and form small scarps, while the tops and bottoms of flows, and the tuffaceous beds are more easily weathered and form vegetated slopes. Note monument (left foreground) commemorating death of King Alexander III in 1286, by a fall from his horse.
