Differential weathering of Palaeocene sills intrusive into Triassic sandstones, giving rise to features on skyline. The Triassic dune-bedded sandstone, unexposed, was intruded by offshoots from the Arran volcanic complexes, which here formed subhorizontal sheets (sills). Being more resistant to weathering than the sandstone, they form craggy features whch can be traced for several kilometres. |
