Description: Eilean Mor, from Ton Lagain, 2.5 km. west-south-west of Sanaigmore, Islay, Argyllshire. Overfolding and cleavage in Colonsay Group rocks. The Colonsay Group is now assigned to the Dalradian Supergroup. The rocks of Eilean Mor belong to the Sanaig Greywacke Formation. They are mostly thick-bedded psammites (metamorphosed sandstones) with thin slaty partings. Asymmetric folding with a top-to-the left sense of movement is well developed. The prominent clefts have been eroded along the lines of thrust planes in the psammites. The rocks in the foreground are dark grey phyllites of the Sanaigmore Phyllite formation.
