Description: Wyresdale Tunnel (Lune-Wyre Link) SE of Lancaster, 2350 m. from the Abbeystead Portal. Thickly-bedded sandstone close to a major anticlinal axis. The thickly-bedded turbiditic sandstones are separated by the siltstone partings. The horizontal sandstones are the lowest beds encountered in the Wyresdale Tunnel, and are close to the axis of a major anticline. (A stereographic plot shows the anticlinal axis plunging at 3 or 4 degrees to the south-west, i.e. at 90 degrees) to the line of the tunnel.
