Description: Wyresdale Tunnel (Lune-Wyre Link) SE of Lancaster, 1810 m. from the Rowton Portal. Sand-filled burrows in silty mudstone. The lighter coloured cylindrical sand-filled burrows are present in a 3 m. bed of dark grey silty mudstones. The burrows, up to 25 mm. diameter, commonly coalesce and locally form irregular beds (e.g. from above the hammer to the bottom right of the photograph). The source of the sand fill is not known, as no sandstones are present in this part of the sequence. A thin neptunean sandstone dyke in mudstones immediately overlying the burrowed bed of mudstone suggests a local non-sequence, and a coeval event involving sand that has only been recorded in the burrows and the neptunean dyke.
