Description: Wyresdale Tunnel (Lune-Wyre Link) SE of Lancaster, 365 m. from the Rowton Portal. Discordant base of turbiditic sandstone. The thickly-bedded, well-sorted, medium-grained sandstone with a sharp base (top) rests on dark grey finely-laminated siltstone. Bedding discordancies at the contact of the two lithologies result from erosion prior to the deposition of the turbiditic sandstone. The 0.91 m. siltstone forms a prominent parting in a thickly-bedded sandstone unit, the lower sandstone is obscured by polythene sheeting (bottom left). The beds dip c.15 degrees north-west. Scale = 0.5 m.
