Description: Wyresdale Tunnel (Lune-Wyre Link) SE of Lancaster, 170 m. from the Rowton Portal. Contact of thickly-bedded sandstone and silty mudstone. The basal 0.8 m. bed of turbiditic sandstone contains numerous lithoclasts derived from the underlying silty mudstone. The overlying sandstone (top left) is free from such inclusions. Local bedding discordancies are present at the base of the sandstone (centre). The strata are dipping at c. 30 degrees to the north-west. Scale = 0.5 m. Details on the right of the photograph are obscured by dust on the tunnel wall.
