Description: Old gravel quarry beside road, NW of Edlaston Hall near Ashbourne. Looking SW. Section in conglomerates of the Sherwood Sandstone Group, Edlaston. The section shows massively bedded conglomerates with somewhat disrupted sandstone lenses in part. Pebbles and cobbles up to 12 cm. are mainly of quartzite and quartz. The beds are regarded as the products of a high energy fluvial environment, and form part of the Sherwood Sandstone Group of Permo-Triassic age. See also Photo No. L1646 taken in the same quarry.
